What to Expect

Dress

You will find our congregation dressed in everything from jeans and tee shirts to suits and ties. However, most members wear business casual attire.

Worship & Music Style

We seek to focus our worship squarely on Jesus Christ, who is present for us and with us through His Word and Sacraments. We follow a traditional Lutheran liturgical order of service. The best of musical traditions, both ancient and modern, are embraced by our congregation with an emphasis on congregational singing reinforced by our small, but gifted, choir. Holy Communion is offered every Sunday. By Friday or Saturday, you can usually sneak a peek at our order of worship for Sunday by viewing our worship folders/bulletins here.

Parking

Our parking lot is across from our building on the northeast corner of the intersection of North 28th Avenue and Weber Street. Spaces are reserved for guests on the east side of the parking lot. However, you may park anywhere in the lot or use street parking if you wish.

Handicapped Access

Please enter our church through the west entrance on North 28th Avenue. Wheel chairs and walkers are available. Just ask one of our ushers.

Greeter & Ushers

Regardless of which entrance you use, one of our friendly greeters will introduce themselves and ask you to sign our guestbook. One of our ushers will hand you a bulletin which contains the order of worship. Guests may seat themselves or ask an usher to seat them.

Children

We welcome children of all ages in our worship services. Some of our families with children prefer to sit toward the rear of the worship area. Others find their children do better closer to the front where they can see what is happening. Ask an usher for an activity bag with books, crayons, etc. for pre-k through 2nd graders. If a child needs a break, feel free to take them back to lobby area where the ushers can seat you and you may still hear the service.

In the Pew

Hymnals, hand sanitizer, and communion cards are all in the rack in front of you. Most of the hymns are printed out in the bulletin. However, when there isn't room to print out an entire hymn, "Green" with a hymn number refers to a hymn in the Lutheran Book of Worship Hymnal and "Blue" refers to a hymn in the With One Voice hymnal.

Offering

As a visitor, you are our guest and not expected to make an offering.

Holy Communion

If you believe that those who commune receive in, with and under the bread and wine of this sacrament the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and that receiving the sacrament is a public witness to your oneness in faith in the teachings of our church, you are invited to join us at the Lord’s Table. Newcomers are asked to read and sign a communion registration card from the hymnal rack as a sign of your agreement with its statements and give it to an usher. Bring your children to the communion rail with you, and our Pastor will bless them.

For those who need to avoid alcohol and yet want to commune with their fellow Mount Olive brothers and sisters, the very center glass in each communion tray now has non-alcoholic wine in it for your reception.

After Worship

You are cordially invited to join us for coffee or tea and a pastry or bagel and Bible class in our fellowship hall after worship. If you have children, they are welcome to join one of our age-appropriate Sunday School or Youth Bible classes. You may register your kids at the Sunday School registration desk just inside the north entrance. (See diagram of our facilities to locate the fellowship hall and Sunday School registration desk. Better yet, just ask someone.)
